Runar Stokke

Researcher

Runar Stokke is a researcher at the Department of Biological Sciences (BIO) with a PhD in microbiology (2006). Since his PhD, Stokke’s research has focused on unique Arctic deep-sea hydrothermal vent ecosystems. He has pioneered research on the Arctic Mid-Ocean Ridge (AMOR) vent fields (VFs) and developed meta-omics tools for exploration of the ecology and bioprospecting potential in the AMOR VFs. Stokke has been involved as a researcher in large national and international funded projects, such as H2020 INMARE and Biotek2021 NorZymeD. He is currently the project leader of an international project funded by the Norwegian Research Council (https://deepseaquence.w.uib.no/, 2021-2025) exploring the genetic diversity of microbial communities in hydrothermal systems at AMOR. Runar brings his experience in biological labs that will be invaluable for RIALHE.
